The supported homes service is managed by a multi-disciplinary team of professional support workers and key workers who are experienced in working with young people. Our senior staff are well qualified.

When a young person is placed with us, we work with them to develop a routine that enhances their quality of life. We monitor and support young people with a variety of basic tasks and activities, including:

    • Registering with a GP, dentist, and optician

    • Money management, including weekly budgeting.  

    • Shopping and food preparation

    • Managing a household and all aspects of daily living

    • Managing and attending appointments in the community and with other professionals

    • Accessing education, employment, or training

    • Managing incidents

    • Accessing information about leisure opportunities available in the local area

    • Managing benefits, applications, finances, and budgeting

    • Understanding and accessing opportunities to make a positive contribution

    • Learning how to keep themselves safe in the community and their own home

Hanker Homes is experienced in working with young people with extremely challenging and risky behaviour. 

We work with our partner agencies to offer a variety of support services to meet the individual needs of each young person, including:

    • Counselling

    • Life skills workshops

    • Group mentoring sessions

    • Support to develop retrospective thinking

    • Offending reduction programmes in partnership with the Youth Offending Team (YOT) and other agencies

    • Support with reducing substance and/or alcohol abuse

    • Relationship building with family and friends

    • Workaround post-traumatic stress disorder

    • Support with asylum applications and other legal matters

    • Support for young parents

    • Gang awareness and intervention

    • Support with reducing risky behaviour that could lead to exploitation

    • Support with managing ADHD, including anger management and temper control disorder
